How to make an IMPACT

“This has to be the most impactful conference we’ve ever hosted, this is our last chance to get it right.” This was the all-or-nothing call to arms spoken by our manager. He made it clear that the only way to make our marketing team an indispensable part of our company is to give our audience, who are also our customers, the best conference experience of their lives.

We had a small team at the time and so we all had to wear multiple hats. I considered myself quite lucky to have been asked to wear a Creative Director’s hat, the very first time I had taken on such a responsibility, and I didn’t take it lightly. In addition to my Motion Design work, I also knew that I had to build an audience experience that would leave a mark. I had to deliver such a blow to the audience that the bruise would be permanent. I had to make an impact.

I knew that if we wanted to wow the audience, we had to start off with a bang. And so, I made it a priority that we conceptualize and produce an opening video that would literally set the stage for what would be a powerful conference. After many brainstorming sessions, c-suite pitches and feedback and finally production, we landed on something we knew would hit the audience hard.

Our guests filled their seats in this historical theatre, the Bushnell, and were already in awe of their environment. That coupled with the multiple screens on stage designed to hold their attention and bring them delight in various ways really started to give us confidence in the event. But now as we approach the start of the event, the clock ticks down and the audience roars in unison as they count down the numbers on screen… “5! .. 4! .. 3! .. 2! ..” and then..
